Why Most of Our Food is Plant-Based (and What That Really Means)
At Sana Sana, food is never just fuel. It's a form of care, a source of pleasure, joy, creativity and inspiration and, most of all, a way to support you through your time with us.
For this reason, that is why the majority of the meals we create and serve are plant-based.
Not because it's "trendy" or what retreats "should do" and not because it's restrictive.
We do it because we genuinely believe in the healing, nourishing power of plants, and we want you to experience just how satisfying, beautiful, creative and delicious that can be.
So let's take some time out for us to explain what that means to us, and more importantly, what it doesn't.
What "Plant-Based" Means to Us
When we say most of our food is plant-based, we mean meals that centre around whole ingredients like vegetables, fruits, legumes, whole grains, nuts, seeds, herbs, and spices.
It doesn't mean every guest has to be vegan because before we go any further, we are not vegans ourselves but we do know how much we enjoy eating plant-based meals. It doesn't mean there's no room for flexibility. And if you've spent time with us, you will know that it definitely doesn't mean bland salads or boring buffets of steamed veg.
Plant-based to us means flavour, colour, creativity, and nourishment. It's an invitation to eat in a way that feels light, grounded, deeply satisfying and healthy.
Plants Are Where the Flavour Live
If you've ever sat down to a bowl of roasted tomatoes with garlic and fresh basil, or dipped a spoon into a creamy roasted pepper hummus, you will know that there is one thing that plants do and that is pack in the flavour.
They carry the colours, the textures, the natural sweetness and the true balance of flavours that we naturally crave. Spices, herbs, citrus, slow-cooked onions, earthy lentils, crunchy seeds — this is where the meals start to come alive. And as you're reading this, you will probably find that your mouth is watering just at the thought of all the natural flavours we get from all of these.
At Sana Sana, we build our dishes around these beautiful vibrant ingredients that we get every week from our local market. Not only because they're packed full of nutrients but also because they are, quite simply, bloody delicious.

Whether you choose the full food menu or the juice option, you're giving your body a chance to rest, reset, and receive.
